New York Cares is now the city’s largest volunteer management organization, running volunteer programs for 1,300 nonprofits, city agencies, and public schools. That is why we are determined to give back to our community and support those who work to make it a better place. We’ve started a collection and our current goal is $100 by October 1st, 2014. Wood Vespa by Carlos Alberto

This modern shelf at Macy’s caught our eye in the Furniture Department, and we think it makes an excellent accent to their bedding display. We also took notice of their hardwood wall panels: Nice touch!

Gorgeous Grain: Wooden Bathtubs Really Go with the Flow

Check out these German hand-crafted bathtubs made of Exotic wood! We’re impressed:

In Venice, the gondolas are moored to poles of European Oak that are typically 12 meters long, and dig 1/3rd into the sand underneath the water.  These wooden poles are called “Briccole” and are replaced by law in Italy every 8 years. The ravaged material is recycled and handcrafted into various wood-carved artworks, including wood flooring! The wood’s desired unique appearance comes from the natural salt and murkiness of the water, wear down from the gondolas, and the micro-organisms (lagoon mollusk & shipworms) that once burrowed into the wood.
Our Triveneta Parchetti line includes flooring made of some of the finest reclaimed Briccole!  Click here to view our products.
The New York Landmarks Conservancy works to rehabilitate and preserve historic architectural landmarks throughout the city.  As advocates of the architectural and interior design community, we’re proud to have made a contribution!  For more information on how you can donate, visit The NYLC website at

PID Floors Fact #1: It is important to know that in wood flooring Summer is not the “dry season” because warm air holds more moisture. Cooling warm air does not change the amount of moisture in the air but it does raise the percentage of relative humidity because cold air holds less moisture! When the air is too dry wood tends to shrink, too moist and it will swell. Therefore, to lessen the likelihood of any potential problems to your floors we encourage you to always monitor your relative humidity levels and use a humidifier when appropriate!
